Player of the day!

Last Saturday at netball my team (Starlights) versed Matariki our schools other year 7&8 team. We lost to them by 14 points. I pretty gutted that we lost, but they played really well.

The position I played was GD so i had to defend the other teams goal, and not let them score. I was tired by the first half, but I still kept going because I was committed.

At prize-giving I was awarded, player of the day, which meant I got a certificate and a voucher for Burger King. I'm going to keep the voucher for the holidays.

It felt amazing being named player of the day.

Book Review

Title: The boy in the stripped pajamas
Author:  John Boyne
When did the story take place? During World War two
Where did the story take place? Berlin, Germany
The main characters of the story: Bruno, his parents, Gretel, Maria, Shmuel
What the book is about is about:
This book about a boy and his family who have to move from Berlin because his father gets a new job. Bruno doesn’t enjoy his new environment because he misses his friends. On one of his walks he finds a friend called Shmuel and their friendship develops throughout the book, which leads to a surprising and sad ending.
What part did you like the best and why?
It is when Bruno helps his friend find his Grandpa but they end up lost. We enjoyed this part because it showed that true friends will do anything for each other and that kindness is important.

Year 7/8 Rugby Tournament

Wednesday 17th June, Our yr7 & 8 girls had their rugby tournament.
We knew we had six games to play and that each game went for twenty minutes so we knew we would have to pace ourselves so we would still have energy for the last game.

One of our best games was against ST Annes.
The girls were bigger than us, but we had the advantage of being faster than them, so we could avoid their hard tackles.

Our last game against waimahia caused many injuries. Maria had her knee twisted and squashed under one of their bigger players, so she had to be subbed off. I had my calf stood on by one of the girls and it bruised straight away, so I had to leave the field too. It was a really physical game so we were lucky it was our last one for the day.

The weather was freezing so it was really hard to stay warm in between games, we were glad when we got back on the bus and made our way back to school. It was a good day, but I wish it was a bit warmer.
